NEW YORK — Icelandic Provisions, a maker of skyr, a traditional Icelandic dairy product, is rolling out a new snack featuring fruit and nuts.
The new Fruit & Nuts snacks combine whole milk skyer, made from certified heirloom cultures, with almonds and fruit. They are gluten-free and contain 11 grams of protein, 13 grams of fiber, 9 grams of sugar and 170 to 180 calories per serving. Varieties include apple cinnamon with almonds, coconut with almonds and peach apricot with almonds.
“We like to call our new Fruit & Nuts line ‘the thinking person's snack’ because of the layers of flavor and texture it provides,” said John Heath, chief innovation officer at Icelandic Provisions. “The combination of textures and flavors creates a heightened sensory eating experience that doesn’t exist as a packaged good, especially in the yogurt aisle. It’s a three-dimensional proposition; with chunks of real fruit mixed with crushed nuts and seeds, all blended into our creamy whole milk skyr.”
The snacks come in 4.4-oz containers and are available for a suggested retail price of $1.99. They launched in Whole Foods Markets and will expand to additional retailers next year.
