MINNEAPOLIS — The latest spate of launches from General Mills, Inc. taps into five consumer trends: gluten-free, protein, bold flavors, whole grains and indulgence. Among more than 150 new products rolling out this summer are Chex Gluten Free Oatmeal, Larabar Renola grain-free granola, and nacho cheese Old El Paso taco shells.

“Everything we do starts with the consumer in mind, and in fiscal 2015 we’re applying this consumer first mindset across our portfolio,” said Ken Powell, chairman and chief executive officer of General Mills. “Through a deep understanding of our consumers — what foods they like, where they shop and how they like to cook — we are rapidly addressing their needs with products that offer relevant health news, increased convenience, superior taste and product quality.”

Cheerios Protein and Cascadian Farm Protein Granola are among new protein-enriched products from General Mills.

Protein

With more than half of consumers seeking to add more protein to their diets, according to General Mills, new snacks and cereal with added protein are set to debut.

Cheerios Protein, the brand’s first-ever protein-fortified variety, combines the iconic cereal with crunchy granola clusters and includes 11 grams of protein with milk.

Yoplait is expanding its Greek yogurt lineup with lemon meringue, key lime, peaches and cream, honey, pina colada, caffe mocha, and caramel varieties. Five new flavors are debuting in the Yoplait Greek 100 lineup: raspberry, pineapple, mango, blackberry pie, and Boston cream pie.

Under the Cascadian Farm banner comes new protein granola, made with pea protein and containing 10 grams of protein per serving. The products include organic whole grain and crisp rice with coconut flakes and dark chocolate or dried apples with a hint of cinnamon and nutmeg.

Nature Valley is adding a pair of flavors to its protein granola line with peanut butter and peanut butter and dark chocolate. Each variety contains 10 grams of protein per serving.

General Mills is adding products with bold flavors, including Old El Paso Nacho Cheese Taco Shells and Progresso Chili.

Bold flavors

General Mills is leveraging global flavor trends in new convenient meals and snack products, including Old El Paso Nacho Cheese Taco Shells and Taco Kit, inspired by a popular quick-service restaurant trend. Old El Paso also is introducing frozen burrito bowls in two varieties: carne asada steak and honey chipotle chicken.

From Progresso comes a new premium chili, made with such ingredients as chicken or beef, thick cuts of vegetables, herbs bad spices. Packaged in two-serving pouches, varieties include Southwest Style Chicken Chili with Beans and Smokehouse Pork and Beef Chili with Beans.

A new snack product called Chex Mix Xtreme includes such on-trend flavors as habanero lime and sweet and spicy sriracha.

Available exclusively in convenience stores, new snack chips from the Totino’s brand of frozen pizzas feature a light and crispy texture and include two popular pizza flavors: pepperoni and cheese.

In the frozen aisle, Totino’s is extending its Bold line with new pizza rolls in spicy taco and barbecue chicken varieties.

Gluten-free launches from General Mills includes Chex Gluten Free Oatmeal and Betty Crocker Gluten Free Pizza Crust.

Gluten-free

General Mills is expanding its gluten-free offerings with Betty Crocker Gluten Free Pizza Crust and Chex Gluten Free Oatmeal in maple brown sugar, apple cinnamon and original flavors. From the company’s natural and organic division, Larabar is introducing Renola, the first nationally distributed, grain-free granola in cinnamon nut, cocoa coconut, and berry flavors; and Food Should Taste Good is adding brown rice crackers made with sesame and flax seeds, quinoa and amaranth and available in sea salt, roasted red pepper, tomato and basil varieties.

Nature Valley Fruteria bars and Suddenly Grain Salad are among introductions with a whole grain boost.

Whole grains

General Mills is boosting whole grains in such products as side dishes and snacks. Suddenly Grain Salad, a new line of Suddenly Salad side dishes, includes more than 27 grams of grain blends such as brown rice, wild rice and quinoa, paired with Tuscan, Southwest or Mediterranean dressings.

New varieties of Green Giant Steamers combine brown rice or barley and frozen vegetables and such sauces as Parmesan asiago, rosemary, and teriyaki.

From Nature Valley comes a new line of chewy granola bars for Hispanic consumers. In mango strawberry and strawberry apple flavors, Fruteria blends fruit pieces and chew oats in a 100-calorie snack bar.

Sweet treats set to launch include Betty Crocker Hershey's dessert mixes and Fiber One Streusel bars.

Indulgence

Sweet treats on tap from General Mills include Fiber One Streusel bars in strawberry and blueberry varieties; Fiber One Soft-Baked Cookies in double chocolate, chocolate chunk, and oatmeal raisin flavors; Pillsbury Melts ready-to-bake cookies in molten fudge cake and s’more flavors; and Betty Crocker Hershey’s Premium Dessert Mixes, which includes new dessert bar mixes in Hershey’s s’mores, Reese’s Peanut Butter and Chocolate, and Heath varieties, as well as a Hershey’s s’mores cookie mix.

Nature Valley is introducing coconut varieties to its Crunchy granola bar and Protein chewy bar lines.

New Yoplait yogurt products with Hershey mix-ins feature vanilla-flavored yogurt packaged with either Whoppers candy, Hershey’s milk chocolate chunks, or Hershey’s Cookies n’ Cream toppings.
