Innovative prepared meal solutions are filling the freezer aisle.
Tillamook County Creamery Association (TCAA) entered a new product category with the launch of frozen macaroni and cheese and frozen pizza.
The frozen macaroni and cheese line comes in three varieties, including classic cheddar, sharp cheddar and uncured bacon and cheddar and hatch chile.
The frozen stone-fired pizza comes in cheesy uncured pepperoni, three cheese supreme and cheesy barbecue chicken flavors.
Konscious Foods expanded its plant-based seafood offerings with the launch of frozen sushi rolls, poke bowls and onigiri stuffed rice snacks.
The clean label seafood alternatives are formulated using ingredients like konjac plant, pea fiber and organic red quinoa to provide a convenient meal option for health-conscious and sustainability-focused consumers. The product additions include California, spicy California, Rainbow and tuna avocado sushi rolls; tuna poke and salmon poke bowls featuring organic rice, edamame, corn and mango; and onigiri in flavors like Japanese vegetable curry, kale gomae, roasted corn and poblano and Korean barbecue mushroom.
Conagra Brands’ plant-based brand Gardein added single-serve bowls that include options like plant-based sweet and sour chicken, a plant-based beef burrito bowl, a plant-based beef and broccoli bowl, and a plant-based meatball marinara bowl.
The Kraft Heinz Co. launched its Homebake 425°/:30 brand, a mix-and-match collection of frozen entree, side and vegetable dishes, all of which can be cooked together at 425° F for 30 minutes.
“With Homebake 425°/:30, we’re giving consumers solutions to the pain points we all experience when cooking, and shattering the notion that there needs to be a tradeoff when it comes to quality, convenience, customization, and crave-ability,” said Alan Kleinerman, Vice president of disruption, Kraft Heinz.
In a group of offerings inspired by restaurants, Conagra Brands’ Birds Eye brand added Fusions, which combines on-trend vegetables with sauces. Fusions may be added to a protein and come in varieties like spring mix with garlic butter and Asian mix with sesame soy sauce.
Nestle’s Lean Cuisine brand added a line of Balance Bowl entrees to support blood sugar management.
The frozen meals are formulated to adhere to the American Diabetes Association’s nutrition guidelines and contain no sugar and 400 calories or less per entree. The Balance Bowls are available in four varieties, including Tex-Mex rice and black beans, lemon garlic shrimp stir-fry, roasted eggplant Parmesan pasta and creamy pasta primavera. Developed in Nestle’s R+D Accelerator initiative, the recipes were brought to market in less than six months for a pilot launch in 2022. Now, the products will launch nationwide in select retailers at a suggested retail price of $4.49.
Conagra Brands’ frozen meal brand Banquet added mega crustless pizzas, which are available in pepperoni, three cheese or supreme flavors. The pizzas feature 25 to 28 grams per 10-oz meal, according to the company.
Scott & Jon’s, a maker of frozen shrimp entrees, launched a line of better-for-you shrimp bowls.
The products are available in four flavors: honey garlic shrimp, a bowl that features edamame, broccoli, peppers, carrots and honey garlic sauce; shrimp primavera orzo, made with chopped spinach, peppers, broccoli florets, Parmesan sauce and orzo pasta; shrimp marinara penne, which includes tomatoes, garlic, olive oil and basil; and Mediterranean shrimp orzo, made with kalamata olives, chopped spinach, tomatoes, orzo pasta and Greek vinaigrette.
Birds Eye Voila, a Conagra Brand, added skillet and oven-bake meals, which may be made in 15 minutes. New options include beef-and-broccoli, Cajun-style sausage and rice and cheesy chicken and rice.
DiGiorno frozen pizza, a brand of Nestle USA, Inc., introduced two new varieties: Loaded Ultra-Thin and Detroit Style.
DiGiorno Loaded Ultra-Thin pizza is crafted specifically for “topping-obsessed pizza lovers,” according to the company, and comes in two flavors: Loaded Ultra-Thin Carnivore, which features pepperoni, sausage, beef and ham along with a bold herb seasoning; and Veggie Lovers, which is stacked with peppers, onions, spinach and garlic, along with a garlic and herb seasoning. The Detroit-Style pizzas come in three varieties: Double pepperoni, three meat and four cheese. According to the company the pizzas were inspired by fans of Michigan’s signature pie and deliver “a thick, chewy crust that you’ll want to taste again and again.”
Conagra Brands’ Healthy Choice added a line of shrimp-based power bowl options to its portfolio, including Mediterranean-style shrimp and shrimp fajitas. The brand also added a variety of options to its café steamer and simply steamer options. New to the café steamer line is the turkey sausage lasagna bowl, and new to the simply steamer line is the southwest-style chicken burrito bowl.
Conagra’s La Choy brand is making its debut in the frozen aisle with three entree options, which feature tempura-batter chicken and one of three sauces. The 18-oz frozen entrees include orange chicken, General Tso’s chicken and sweet-and-sour chicken.
Conagra Brands’ Marie Callender’s business added new casserole-inspired dishes to its portfolio of frozen meal options. The line extension features cheesy potato casserole, sweet corn casserole, cheddar broccoli casserole and green bean casserole meals. The brand also added a beef and broccoli and sesame chicken option and a meatball marinara and fettuccini with chicken and broccoli option to its Duos line.
