Springtime flavors are making a return to shelves.
Climate-conscious and gut-friendly ice cream company Alec’s Ice Cream added a peanut butter fudge honeycomb flavor to its lineup. The new flavor is a play on founder Alec Jaffe’s favorite childhood candy bar, the Butterfinger, according to the company. It joins the existing line of six flavors, which includes Tahitian vanilla bean, chocolate chocolate chip, salted caramel latte, honey blueberry lavender, mint chocolate chip and matcha chocolate chip varieties.
The flavor features a peanut butter base, as well as ribbons of fudge and chocolate-covered honeycomb toffee pieces.
Moku, a brand of mushroom jerky, has added a Korean barbecue flavor to its permanent lineup following a successful small-batch launch last year. The Asian-inspired snack features a mix of sesame, ginger, garlic and gochugaru and has 9 grams of fiber and 6 grams of protein per bag.
Ben & Jerry’s added a new flavor to its portfolio: “Churray for Churros.” Inspired by the cinnamon-y fried dessert, the ice cream features a crunchy and butter texture, cinnamon and sugar.
“It was years in the making and we’re excited to finally have churro in the lineup,” said Natalia Butler, flavor guru at Ben & Jerry’s. “Those flavors resonate with a lot of people and bring back so many memories, especially for us at Ben & Jerry’s.”
Better-for-you Mexican American-owned Siete Foods is expanding its portfolio with new maíz totopos. The corn tortilla chips are available in lime, sea salt and blue corn flavors.
The tortilla chips are made through the traditional process of nixtamalization, where the grains are soaked and cooked in an alkaline solution, like limewater, then washed and hulled.
“Our community enjoys corn, and I also have been able to reintroduce nixtamalized corn into my diet over the past few years,” said Veronica Garza, co-founder, president, and chief innovation officer of Siete Family Foods. “We realized there wasn’t a corn tortilla chip available that was meeting all of our needs. This innovation was a natural extension of our current offerings in a space that is core to our culture, with a product that follows our food philosophy.”
Brach’s released its first-ever globally inspired jellybeans. The jellybeans feature five flavors, including chocolate macaron, strawberry mochi, churro, apple pie and lemon sorbet.
Eat the Change is expanding its organic tea line with three new flavors, including mango white tea, black tea and lemon ginger herbal tea.
California-based Impossible Foods added three new plant-based chicken options to its lineup, including spicy chicken nuggets, spicy chicken patties and chicken tenders. The three options feature 10 to 12 grams of protein per serving, according to the company.
“Our chicken products caught on fast with consumers, and they’ve served as a successful entry-point to our brand,” said Sherene Jagla, chief demand officer at Impossible Foods. “In retail, our original nuggets are leading the plant-based chicken category in dollar sales, and in foodservice, consumers prefer them to animal chicken nuggets. We’re excited to expand on the platform’s success, and we expect this category to continue to be valuable for our brand.”
Better-for-you brand Alani Nu launched its take on gummy snacks. Available in gummy bears and smoothie gummy rings, the snack has 2 grams of sugar and 7 grams of fiber and offers 80 calories per serving. The gummy bears include watermelon, fruit punch and grape flavors, the smoothie gummy rings include apple and grape, strawberry and mango, and mixed berry flavors.
“We saw an opportunity to create an even better version of our original gummy snacks and wanted to give people exactly what they asked for,” said Katy Hearn, founder of Alani Nu. “My family and I love taking these on-the-go with us and we are so excited for everyone to get their hands on these.”
The Idaho Potato Commission is partnering with New York-based ice cream company Van Leeuwen.
The partnership launched a limited-edition malted milkshake and fries flavor, which features a caramel-flavored ice cream and french fry bits.
Pillsbury Baking expanded its frosting line, with a coffee frosting and a caramel latte frosting. The baking company also added to its Funfetti sprinkle shapes line with dinosaur vanilla frosting and s’mores fluffy graham flavored frosting.
“For over 100 years, Pillsbury Baking has been inviting families to share in the joy of baking delicious treats together at home with trending cakes and frostings,” said Dan Anglemyer, chief operations officer at Hometown Food Co.
Natural meat snack brand Chomps released two new flavors, including taco beef and habanero beef. The habanero beef flavor features habanero peppers, red pepper and coriander, while the taco beef stick is flavored with paprika, cumin and chili powder.
“We started Chomps to provide delicious, sustainably sourced snacks that fill you up and actually taste good,” said Pete Maldonado, chief executive officer at Chomps. “We’ll never stop innovating to give our customers what they are craving, and we created taco beef and habanero beef to do just that.”
AMC Entertainment Holdings, Inc. is adding six varieties of AMC Perfectly Popcorn at hundreds of Walmart locations nationwide, according to the company. The launch will feature three popcorn flavors, including extra butter, classic butter, and lightly salted, in both ready-to-eat and microwavable varieties.
“With the launch of AMC Theatres’ new line of microwave and ready-to-eat popcorn, AMC yet again makes good on a promise made to our moviegoers and our investors,” said Adam M. Aron, chairman and chief executive officer of AMC Theatres.
Cheese stock brand Farm Rich added three new snacks to its line, including the brand’s first plant-based mozzarella-style sticks, toasted ravioli and pizza crunchers.
“These new plant-based cheese sticks from Farm Rich are a game changer,” said Mia Syn, MS, RD, registered dietitian and nutrition expert. “A plant-forward approach to our diets has a proven track record for bettering our overall health, and these new ‘cheesy’ snacks are a great substitute for those who love breaded cheese sticks but need more plant-based options.”
