DUNKIRK, NY. — Ice cream manufacturer Wells Enterprises is expanding its facility in Dunkirk, NY, and more than doubling the plant’s current production capacity.
Construction is slated to begin this fall and the company anticipates the project to be operational by late 2025.
The facility will play a crucial role in Wells’ plans to further build a national manufacturing network for its Blue Bunny, Halo Top, Bomb Pop and Blue Ribbon Classics brands, according to the company. Plus, Wells’ strategy for the space includes supporting growth in novelty and packaged ice cream, as well as innovation.
“We are extremely excited to build on the strength of our team in Dunkirk and continue to work with the community to grow and expand our operations here,” said Liam Killeen, chief executive officer at Wells Enterprises. “The investment in Dunkirk illustrates our passion to provide high-quality premium ice cream products that bring joy to consumers around the world. The planned expansion also reinforces our dedication to our team, consumers and the community as a critical part of the long-term future of our company.”
Based in Le Mars, Iowa, Wells Enterprises also has two manufacturing plants there, as well as one in Henderson, Nev. Ferrero Group acquired Wells Enterprises in late 2022.
Mark Meyer, chief operating officer, said the Dunkirk expansion follows the company’s recent strong performance.
“That, coupled with the continued growth plan for our brands and the category overall, makes expanding our Dunkirk facility the right choice for Wells,” Mr. Meyer said.
