LOUISVILLE, KY. – KFC and Beyond Meat are joining forces in the new year to release plant-based Beyond Fried Chicken nationwide. Beginning on Jan. 10, KFC restaurants around the country will offer the plant-based chicken alternative for a limited time, while supplies last.
Beyond Meat developed Beyond Fried Chicken exclusively for KFC, a subsidiary of Yum! Brands, Inc.
“The mission from day one was simple – make the world-famous Kentucky Fried Chicken from plants,” said Kevin Hochman, president, KFC US. “And now over two years later we can say, ‘mission accomplished.’”
KFC introduced its first version of Beyond Fried Chicken in August 2019 as the first quick-service restaurant to offer a plant-based chicken alternative. The original test ran in Atlanta, where stores sold out of product in less than five hours. In 2020, more restaurants in Nashville, Tenn., and Charlotte, NC, tested the product followed by some restaurants in Southern California.
“We couldn’t be prouder to partner with KFC to offer a best-in-class product that not only delivers the delicious experience consumers expect from this iconic chain, but also provides the added benefits of plant-based meat,” said Ethan Brown, founder and chief executive officer of Beyond Meat. “We are truly thrilled to make it available to consumers nationwide.”
Beyond Fried Chicken is served with a choice of KFC dipping sauce – Honey BBQ, Ranch, Honey Mustard and KFC Sauce.
