NEW YORK — Plant-based and keto collide in Molten Lavva, a new vegan yogurt alternative from Lavva.
Sweetened with monk fruit, erythritol and mesquite, Molten Lavva is made with a blend of sprouted pili nuts, plantains, coconut and cassava combined with live, vegan probiotic cultures and prebiotic fiber from chicory root fiber. The star ingredient, the pili nut, is a buttery tasting nut that is high in protein, calcium and potassium and is sourced from sustainably grown biodiverse farms from the Philippines.
The yogurt alternative contains 3 to 4 net carbs per 4-oz cup and comes in four flavors: chocolate, key lime, espresso and chocolate raspberry.
The chocolate flavor is made with fair trade chocolate and contains 210 calories, 3 grams of protein, 5 grams of fiber and 2 grams of sugar per cup.
The key lime offering contains 200 calories, 3 grams of protein, 4 grams of fiber and 1 gram of sugar per cup.
The espresso option contains 230 calories, 3 grams of protein, 4 grams of fiber and 1 gram of sugar.
The chocolate raspberry flavor, made with fair trade chocolate, contains 190 calories, 3 grams of protein, 4 grams of fiber and 2 grams of sugar.
Founded in 2017 by Elizabeth Fisher, Lavva was created during Ms. Fisher’s recovery from advanced-stage cancer. She sought to build her diet around nourishing, high-fat foods and began experimenting with the pili nut to create a yogurt alternative. After three years of development, Ms. Fisher refined and finalized the recipe for Lavva, which contains no gums, coloring agents, artificial flavors or added sugars.
“All we wanted was a plant-based yogurt that didn’t taste like an ‘alternative,’ Lavva said. “When we couldn’t find one, we made our own.”
Molten Lavva products are available at Sprouts Farmers Market stores nationwide.
